The gardens are all currently under construction, as gardens always are.  We have some grand plans for the flower gardens, so grand they will probably never be finished, but we’ll enjoy trying.

The Vegetable garden has increased to over 1/2 an acre.  We also have an “orchard” area, where all the fruit is/will be planted.  And the flower gardens will be EVERYWHERE!

The Vegetable Garden
We start getting excited each year when the seed catalogs start coming!  We’re planning on some new and exciting veggies for this year’s garden.  How about yellow, white and purple carrots; orange cauliflower; multicolored tomatoes and lots more?  Of course we’ll also have orange carrots and white cauliflower, red tomatoes and green beans.  As soon as our seeds are ordered we’ll put the complete list in our newsletter.

We’ll try to have lots of heirloom seed and the tastiest and most nutritious of the new stuff in that order.  Contact us for a full list of the planted vegetables.

Flower Garden

We love flowers!  Our family has been big flower gardeners for generations and we love the old heirloom varieties that our ancestors raised.  We also love the new varieties.  Some beautiful plantings came with our farm but we always need more.

Our CSA subscribers will be getting bouquets as part of their weekly deliveries as often as possible.  Plans are underway for a cutting garden that will include such old fashioned flowers as “Love Lies Bleeding”, “Hearts Ease” and “Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate”.

The flower garden will also include lots of edible flowers that will find their way into our CSA boxes.

The Herb Garden
Nothing can make plain food taste fresher than adding a bit of fresh herbs.  We are lucky to have an excellent herb farm not too far from us.  It’s so much fun to go there to pick out the herbs that we grow here.  But making choices is HARD!  There are so many interesting and fun plants that we always spend more time there than planned.  You just have to have sage, but what kind and what color?  Basil is necessary to go with the tomatoes, but there are so many kinds!  Our newsletter will keep you updated on what varieties we decide to try this year.

Fruits
Right now we will have LOTS of rhubarb.  The strawberries, raspberries and cranberries will need a few years to get more established.  We planted 5 apple trees last year as well as some plums, pears and apricots.  Unfortunatly it will take a few years before we have much of a crop.  We plan on adding grapes as well.  There are also a bunch of interesting fruits coming from the former Soviet Union that look fun and are full of vitamins and antioxidants.  Our newsletter will let you know what other types end up in our orchard.
